Rangers could finalize trade for Patrick Kane after 5 p.m. ET Tuesday
The long-anticipated trade of Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers could happen after 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Friedman said that Kane’s salary wouldn’t be counted against the Rangers’ cap total until Wednesday if he were obtained by the team after 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT, an important detail considering New York is tight against the cap.

Kane’s future in Chicago has been in doubt of late as he entered the final year of his contract just as general manager Kyle Davidson began tearing down the roster. Kane has to waive a no-movement clause to approve a trade, and carries a $10.5-million cap hit this season.
Although he’s bumped his stats up lately, Kane’s offensive numbers have dipped this season, with just 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points in 54 games. But he’s one year removed from a 92-point season and has broken the 80-point plateau six times in his career.
A deal for Kane by the Rangers has long been expected, although it did seem unlikely after New York obtained scoring winger and Stanley Cup champion Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues earlier in the month.
