Randhir Kapoor birthday: Throwback to the chartbuster songs from his career – Times of India
Randhir’s second film Manmohan Desai’s Rampur Ka Lakshman had a slew of RD Burman chartbusters, including Rampur Ka Vasi Hoon Main and Ghum Hai Kissi Ke Pyar Mein, the latter a duet with Rekha, with Kishore and Lataji at their best.
Randhir’s biggest musical hit was Jawani Diwani in 1972 where Randhir got to lip-sync some of RD Burman’s career’s biggest hits including Jaan-e-Jaan Dhunta Phir Raha and Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani which later became the title of Randhir’s nephew Ranbir’s film.
Haath Ki Safai in 1974 had a blockbuster soundtrack by Kalyanji-Anandji. Although the film’s biggest hit Wada Karle Sajna was not filmed on Randhir (it was filmed on Vinod Khanna and Simi Garewal) Randhir had the boozed-out Kishore Kumar hit Peene Walon Ko Peene Ka Bahana Chahiye.
In Ponga Pandit, Randhir had Kishore Kumar’s Ganga Ghat Ka Pani Piya Hai. The best song in the film was Lata Mangeshkar’s Tere Milne Se Pehle which has a history. Boney Kapoor, who was the producer of Ponga Pandit reveals when Raj Kapoor heard the song (composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal) he requested Boney’s father (the late producer Surinder Kapoor) to send him a tape of the song.
Although the title song of Kasme Vaade in 1978 was filmed on Amitabh Bachchan this film gave Randhir another opportunity to be part of some chartbusters like Aati Rahengi Bahaaren and Kal Kya Hoga Kissko Pataa.
