Rams DT Bobby Brown III suspended six games for PED violation

For a piece published by the official website of the Los Angeles Rams last month, broadcaster J.B. Long named defensive tackle and 2021 fourth-round draft pick Bobby Brown III as a potential “breakout candidate” for the upcoming NFL season.

Brown’s odds of impressing this fall have since taken a hit.

According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, the NFL has suspended Brown without pay for the first six games of the 2022 campaign for a violation of the league’s policy regarding performance-enhancing substances. Per the terms of the punishment, Brown is eligible to participate in training camp and preseason practices and also in August exhibition games.

The defending Super Bowl champion Rams will host the Carolina Panthers in Week 6 on Sunday, Oct. 16. Assuming Brown stays out of trouble through the middle of October, he’ll be able to return to the active roster the day after that matchup.

Brown logged zero starts as a rookie but appeared in 10 regular-season games. In total, he tallied a single tackle and, per Williams, played just 22 defensive snaps and 47 on special teams. It’s unknown if Monday’s development will impact his status with the Rams beyond the length of his suspension.
