Ram Gopal Varma slams AP government; here’s what the filmmaker has to say! – Times of India

It is a known fact that the Andhra Pradesh government headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy has brought in a new Government Order no. 35 to revise the existing film ticket prices in the state, irrespective of the budget (big and small Telugu films) it is made and has given a price slab by now and wants all the exhibitors to rate their film tickets as per its order.

Also, the G.O says, they can’t screen more than a fixed no. of shows in Andhra Pradesh and the film tickets should only be booked through the government-run web portal that is launching soon.

Now several controversies are surrounding the G.O no. 35 in Andhra Pradesh. A few actors have already raised their voices against the G.O brought in by the AP Govt. But the majority of the big filmmakers, actors and distributors are tight-lipped yet including, the recently elected Movie Artists Association (MAA) president of Telugu cinema!

The government says that it has brought in the order to stop the exploitation of poor and innocent people in the name of stardom and worship of film stars but the same is not followed by the government in the pricing of its FMC goods and services (Fast-moving consumer goods) in Andhra Pradesh says a few. Some say it is only to harass the filmmakers and exploit them financially due to caste equations in the state, some have not opened their mouths yet!

In this context, veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed his opinion condemning the Government’s actions and orders on various public platforms and has now given the below inputs for the Government to understand it apart from explaining the functioning of the film industry, its making process, and its economics.

Below is what the ‘Shiva’ director Ram Gopal Varma has shared with the cinematography minister Perni Nani of Andhra Pradesh over his Twitter chat.
