Ram Gopal Varma says ‘Bollywood is not a company’ in reaction to Mahesh Babu’s comment ‘Bollywood can’t afford me’ – Times of India
Reacting to the same, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma stated that it is Mahesh Babu’s choice as an actor to not work in Bollywood but questioned his statement about Bollywood not being able to afford him. RGV stated that recent South Indian films have been dubbed and released in Hindi. He further added that Bollywood is not a company and that a production house would ask the actor to do a film at a particular cost, hence he must not genaralise Bollywood.
At the press conference, Mahesh Babu had said, “I did get a lot of offers in Hindi, but I don’t think they can afford me. I don’t want to waste my time working in an industry which can’t afford me. The stardom and the respect I get here [in South] is huge, so I never really thought of leaving my industry and going to some other industry. I have always thought of doing films here and becoming bigger. My dream is coming true now and I can’t be happier.” Later, the actor’s team issued a statement which read, “Mahesh has clarified that he loves cinema and respects all languages. He said he is comfortable doing the film where he has been working. Mahesh said he is happy to see his dream coming true as Telugu cinema is going places.”
