Ram Gopal Varma opens up about how he discovered his Ladki, Pooja Bhalekar – Times of India

When Ram Gopal Varma decided to make a film on martial arts, he wanted to centre it around a female protagonist. His search to find a girl for Ladki: Enter The Girl Dragon, who can act as well as do martial arts led him to Pooja Bhalekar. Talking about how it all went and how the Bollywood newbie came on board, RGV said, “Someone suggested her name and so I decided to meet her. On the first day she came with her father. I was impressed seeing her demonstration. She is as obsessed with Bruce Lee as I am. I wanted to shoot action sequences where the actor can do the stunts herself and was a pro at martial arts and its style of fights. Pooja has been doing martial arts since she was 12 and for this film the two of us have designed the fight sequences.”

RGV says that Pooja’s physique adds on to her character and looks perfect on screen. He says, “Pooja has the most perfect body that I have ever seen. And then she has the strength to fight, which is the most unique thing I have ever seen. So, I found a combination of power and sensuality in her.”

Considering she hails from a conservative family, the filmmaker took time to brief her. He shares, “I wanted her to fight wearing a bikini. Imagine a girl in bikini on a beach fighting men. Isn’t that a visual spectacle? It’s the most arresting thing one can see. If you do it with conviction, with right expressions then it doesn’t look vulgar, but artistic. I was very particular about that during the shoot.”
