Rajkumar Santoshi on ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ actor Javed Khan: He never got his due in Hindi cinema – Exclusive – Times of India

Senior actor Javed Khan Amrohi, who made an impact in movies like ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Chak De! India’ passed away today after a prolonged battle with breathing problems. One of Javed’s most memorable performances came alongside Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in director Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Andaz Apna Apna’. ETimes reached out to Santoshi who expressed his grief, but praised the senior actor.
Santoshi held Javed in high regard and said, “It’s very sad. He was a very good human being and a fine actor. I think he never got his due in Hindi cinema. He worked a lot in theatre too.” Reminiscing their association the filmmaker said, “We did Andaz Apna Apna together. He played Anand Akela in the film. I enjoyed working with him because he was intelligent and understanding. He was always smiling and a producer-friendly actor.”

Controlling his shock at the passing of Javed, Santoshi finally said, “My heartfelt condolences on his demise and may his soul rest in peace.” Earlier on, ETimes also spoke to Javed’s ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ co-star Tiku Talsania who echoed similar sentiments as their director.

Talsania had recalled Javed’s talent and his craft as an actor and said, “He was always the first one to try something new during the shoot. It is a very sad thing that has happened. I shall pray for him. He was always expressive and was always ready to take things forward in whatever we did. He used to always give me advice.”

Javed Khan’s final rites ceremony was held in Mumbai today evening.
