Raiders legend doesn’t want team to sign Tom Brady

At least one Las Vegas Raiders legend wants the club to stay away from Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady if Brady hits free agency in March.

“Well, I think he’s starting to show that he’s 45-46 years old,” Hall of Famer Tim Brown said of Brady during an appearance on the CBS Sports Radio “Maggie & Perloff” program, as shared by Arthur Weinstein of The Comeback. “His inability to move — when you look at the quarterbacks in the league today you have very few who are pocket quarterbacks. (Cincinnati Bengals starter) Joe Burrow is probably the closest thing you get, but God knows when it’s time to run, he can get out of the pocket and make it happen.”

Brown does, however, understand that Brady’s relationship with head coach Josh McDaniels is a big reason the seven-time Super Bowl champion has been linked with the Raiders since it was learned the franchise is moving on from Derek Carr this offseason. McDaniels served as Brady’s offensive coordinator when both were with the New England Patriots.

While Brady is the G.O.A.T. at the sport’s most important position, Brown indicated he thinks the game has passed the 45-year-old by.

“I just don’t believe in this league, and yeah, Tom has won all these Super Bowls, but I just think the league is moving to a point where you have to have a quarterback that’s able to move around and get some things done with his feet every once in a while,” Brown continued.

Brown isn’t the only member of the football community to voice such an opinion this week. In the latest edition of his podcast, free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman, who spent time as Brady’s teammate during the 2021 season, suggested that the living legend showed his age during the 31-14 playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Brady hasn’t yet publicly announced his plans for next season and legitimately may not know if he wishes to continue playing for any team. It’s been reported the Buccaneers want Brady back and also believe he could return to the organization for another campaign (or two, or more).
