Rahul Dravid begins new innings at Sawai Mansingh Stadium | Cricket News – Times of India
The duo wasted no time and reached the venue for India’s training session ahead of the T20I series opener against New Zealand to be played on Wednesday.
Entering first, Dravid immediately headed to inspect the centre pitch that is likely to be used on the match-day. While carefully examining the wicket for over 30 minutes, Dravid spoke to central zone pitch curator Taposh Chatterjee, chief selector Chetan Sharma and vice-captain KL Rahul.
After fitness drills, which went for 25-30 minutes, the teams headed to the nets at the two wickets adjacent to the centre strip.
With Dravid, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour watching, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the first to start.
All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who became the toast of the town with his batting exploits during IPL 2021, was seen bowling for a considerable period. Being touted as Hardik Pandya’s replacement, Venkatesh could make his international debut in the series.
Captain Rohit was doing clean hitting and went for big shots right after taking guard. The opener passed the challenge posed by pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, spinners Axar Patel, Ashwin and Venkatesh during the session that lasted for almost three hours.
Moreover, the New Zealand team that played the T20 World Cup final in Dubai on Sunday, reached Jaipur on Monday, and will train on the eve of the match.
