Rafael Nadal to take on Maxime Cressy in final of Melbourne Summer Set-1

In tennis, top seed Rafael Nadal will take on American Maxime Cressy in the final of the Melbourne Summer Set-1. This will be Cressy’s first appearance in the ATP Tour final. Nadal made his way to the finals after defeating a resurgent Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland 6-4, 7-5. The Spaniard, playing his first competitive tournament since August, was kept in check by the dogged Ruusuvuori before coming out unscathed in the match that lasted just under two hours.
In women’s singles, Simona Halep will meet Veronika Kudermetova in the final of the women’s Melbourne Summer Set 1. Halep beat China’s Zheng Qinwen 6-3 6-2 yesterday to secure her spot in the final. This is Halep’s 13th consecutive appearance in the WTA Tour final whereas for Kudemertova, it’s third career WTA final clash.
In the Melbourne men’s doubles final, the pair of Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Ukrainian Aleksandr Nedovyesov will face top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski today.
There are two simultaneous WTA events being run as part of the Melbourne Summer Set in the lead-up to this month’s Australian Open.
