Rachael Blackmore will ride Ain’t That A Shame as the favourite to win the Grand National despite her heavy 11th-fence fall on Upping The Anti in the Topham Handicap Chase
Rachael Blackmore will climb aboard Ain’t That A Shame as the favourite to win the Randox Grand National after surviving a bruising fall in the Topham Handicap Chase.
Bookmakers cut her odds in half to 8-1 on the Henry De Bromhead-trained nine-year-old as punters seized on the ‘Rachael Blackmore factor’.
That was despite Friday’s heavy 11th-fence fall on Upping The Anti, after she rode her second winner of the meeting on Inthepocket in the Grade One Top Novices’ Hurdle.
The Irish jockey, whose boyfriend Brian Hayes rides Mr Incredible, walked away unscathed and will on Saturday go for her second National victory after her 2021 win on Minella Times, the first by a woman.
She said of Ain’t That A Shame: ‘He is a very exciting horse to ride in (the National). There is definitely more to come from him.’

Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield hailed an ‘avalanche of cash’ for Ain’t That A Shame in the last 24 hours.
He added: ‘The Rachael Blackmore factor is kicking in once again.
‘She is the go-to jockey people look for when they open their race card.’
Bookmakers were predicting that Delta Work (9-1), third last year, was the only runner that might threaten Ain’t That A Shame and Blackmore starting the race as favourite.
