Broncos star Selwyn Cobbo has branded Penrith champion five-eight Jarome Luai ‘a grub’ over last season’s controversial State of Origin incident.
The Brisbane winger was knocked out after two minutes of the Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium after colliding with teammate Pat Carrigan.
As Cobbo laid on the ground, Luai stood over him, sparking an irate reaction from the Maroons.
The New South Wales star claimed he hadn’t realised his opponent had been knocked out.
But Cobbo has clearly not forgotten about the incident and pulled no punches when asked about his opinion of Luai.

‘I don’t know why he [Luai] did that,’ the 20-year-old told the Back of the 135 podcast.
‘He’s just a grub.
‘It was pretty disappointing. It was in Brissie [Brisbane] so all my family was there too.
‘Two minutes in, I get knocked out. I was pretty upset in the sheds when the doctor said I couldn’t go back on.
‘Luai is a grub.’
Luai was non-plussed after the incident, insisting he had not stepped out of line.
‘That’s Origin, heat of the moment stuff. I play with a lot of passion,’ the two-time premiership winner with Penrith said.

‘I spoke to him [Cobbo] after the game and he was all good, so good to see that.’
Asked whether he had to apologised to the Queenslander, he replied: ‘I don’t think I have anything to apologise for. There wasn’t any harm. I didn’t touch him.’
To add insult to injury, Luai scored the Blues’ opening try in Origin III before the Maroons came storming back to win the game 22-12 and wrap up a famous 2-1 series win.
Cobbo and Luai will come face-to-face on Friday, when the Broncos travel to Penrith as the Panthers kick off their quest for a third straight premiership.
