The film will see Allu Arjun play the titular role of Pushpa Raj, a truck driver who turns into a red sandalwood smuggler. Rashmika Mandanna plays Srivalli, a village belle and his love interest in the film. Fahadh Faasil has been roped in to play Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat IPS, Dhananjay plays Jolly Reddy while Sunil plays Mangalam Srinu and Anasuya Bharadwaj plays Dakshayani. What’s even more exciting is that Samantha debuts in the first special number of her career with Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava.

Talking to Hyderabad Times, producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar revealed that not only was Allu Arjun a thorough professional on-sets, he had to work extra hard for the role. The actor was apparently in the makeup chair for hours to get the look right, not to mention, had to travel for a few more hours to get to location deep in the forests of Maredumalli. The actor grew his hair out long and went rustic for the character, fans are used to seeing him in more stylish roles however. Both the lead actors also learnt to speak in Chittoor accent for the film set in Seshachalam forests.

The synopsis of the film reads – Pushpa Raj is a truck driver and a smuggler who trades red sanders smuggling in the Seshachalam Hills of the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh state in India. The film has been censored U/A and stands at 179 minutes long. Mirosław Kuba Brożek did the camera-work for the film while Devi Sri Prasad delivered hit songs like Daakko Daakko Meka and Saami Saami. Resul Pookutty worked on the film’s sound design. While shot in Telugu, the film is getting a pan-India release in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Mounted on a massive budget, this is Allu Arjun’s first pan-India release.

Pushpa has massive expectations pinned on it as Sukumar’s last film was Rangasthalam, starring Ram Charan, Aadi Pinisetty and Samantha. Allu Arjun’s last film Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo was a massive hit too, as was Rashmika’s last film Bheeshma. Pushpa was supposed to hit screens earlier both release and shooting schedules were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film was launched in 2019 with a formal pooja and a test shoot was performed at Kerala’s Athirappilly Falls. With the first film finally hitting screens now, it remains to be seen how it’ll fare and when the second part will release.
