The Punjab Government is in the process of formulating a policy to provide government jobs to players bringing glory to the state at the national and international level. Besides, those winning medals in big tournaments will be brought under the ambit of cash awards.
This was disclosed here today by Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on the occasion of felicitating Arjun Babuta, who won two gold medals in the Shooting World Cup in Changwon, South Korea, recently.
Congratulating Babuta for the achievement, the Minister expressed hope that this feat would act as an inspiration for budding players.
Babuta urged the Sports Minister to provide him a job according to his sporting achievements in the state government. “I request the state government to recognise my sporting achievements and consider me for cash prize and give me a job according to my qualifications,” said Babuta.
Meet Hayer said the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government was undertaking special efforts to bolster Punjab in sports in order to restore its glory.
While interacting with Babuta, the Minister disclosed that the shooting range in Phase 6, Mohali, was being modernised.
