Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Cormac McCarthy passes away
Cormac McCarthy kept himself aloof, completely away from all kinds of limelight, and remained reclusive for most of his life. But the crime thriller film based on his novel ‘No Country for Old Men’ was an instant hit and it won Oscar awards for best picture, best director, best-adapted screenplay and best-supporting actor.
McCarthy’s other crime thriller ‘The Counsellor’ was a successful film in which stars like Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz acted.
McCarthy’s first novel ‘The Orchard Keeper’ was published in 1965, his first commercially successful work was ‘All The Pretty Horses’. It got the National Book Award in 1992 and a movie based on the novel was released in 2000. McCarthy got the Pulitzer Prize for his novel ‘The Road’ in 2006.
A television series based on McCarthy’s ‘The Gardener’s Son’ got rave reviews. ‘The Sunset Limited’ was a telepic made by HBO in 2011. McCarthy adopted his own play for this telepic.
