Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez Host a Post-Show Soireé With Vogue100

Less than 24 hours after Proenza Schouler’s spring 2023 collection debut, designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez joined Vogue100 for an exclusive viewing and intimate discussion with Vogue’s Allie Michler Kopelman. Straight off the runway, a selection of looks worn by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid arrived at Tribeca’s Hotel Barriere Fouquet’s New York for the buzzy cocktail hour, followed by a conversation with the design duo about the making of their latest collection.

“This season, We were thinking about life with a capital ‘L’,” Hernandez laughed. “I think that’s the temperature of the moment right now, it’s important to enjoy the joyful moments to their fullest.”

While perusing their favorite looks and accessories, guests enjoyed craft cocktails prepared by Grand Marnier. Curated especially for the afternoon affair, Grand Marnier offered twists on classic cocktails like a “Grand 75” and “Grand & Ginger,” both of which paired perfectly with the mini Croque monsieurs and caramelized cherry tomatoes.

Longtime friend of the brand and our fashion initiatives director, Kopelman hosted the discussion in a stately presidential suite adorned with art by Richard Serra and Alice Neel. From McCollough and Hernandez’s start at Parsons School of Design to reflecting on two decades in the fashion industry, the conversation covered a range of topics. Of course, guests were eager to hear about the inspiration for the brand’s beautiful spring 2023 collection.

“I was really influenced by my Cuban heritage and Latin energy this season,” Hernandez smiled. “All the sensuality, heat, drama, and flare just felt right for today.”

This season, the duo staged their show at the recently refurbished Beaux-Arts building, which features expansive heights and depths. Venezuelan-native and trans musician Arca opened the show in a drapey two-piece set with fringe details. A deep blue light illuminated the runway before showtime while waterfalls were projected onto the walls. 

“This idea of water kept coming to mind,” McCollough explained. “We drenched all the models’ hair and even some of the silhouettes look as if they are dripping off the body.”

Following the conversation, Vogue100 members and guests, including Vogue Singapore’s Norman Tan, Maghan McDowell of Vogue Business, and local editors Mai Morsch, Naomi Elizeé, Lilah Ramzi, and Elise Taylor mingled on the outdoor terraces while enjoying some sweet treats. But the NYFW fun won’t end here. The designers and attendees are looking forward to VogueWorld, a first-of-its-kind celebration in honor of Vogue’s 130th anniversary, which will take place on Monday evening.
