Priyanka Chopra ‘shook’ over Alec Baldwin accidentally killing Halyna Hutchins; Kangana Ranaut asks Indian film associations to prevent such tragedies – Times of India

“I am so shook,” said actress Priyanka Chopra as she expressed shock and grief over the prop gun accident on the sets of Alec Baldwin’s movie ‘Rust’ that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured the director Joel Souza.

Sharing a photo of the deceased cinematographer on her Instagram stories, Priyanka wrote a note with a broken heart emoticon and said, “I cannot imagine what everyone involved in this tragedy is feeling. There are no words. No one should die on a film set. Period. My heart goes out to Halyna Hutchins family and everyone who knew her.”

Another Bollywood star expressing her grief over the incident was actress Kangana Ranaut. Recalling her near-death experiences while shooting action stunts for her films, she wrote, “Today two people were shot on a film set, one of them died immediately… Like other leading actors, I too have had many accidents while filming stunts… Some of them were near-death experiences and mostly it was someone else’s carelessness… Many stuntmen and occasionally actors die on film sets every year… This is so wrong.”

Urging Indian film associations to prevent such mishappenings on the sets, she added, “In Indian films action protocols, prep and execution are even more primitive… Hope our film bodies look into it and prevent such mishaps.”

The Ukraine-born cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, was struck in the chest and died shortly after the incident Thursday in New Mexico, while director Joel Souza, 48, who was crouching behind her as they lined up a shot, was wounded and hospitalized, then released.

Police interviewed a visibly distraught Baldwin, who willingly cooperated. They have pressed no charges.

Souza said in a statement Saturday that he was “gutted” by the loss of his friend and colleague. “She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch, and always pushed me to be better,” he told Deadline, an entertainment news outlet.

The incident sparked intense speculation on social media about how such an accident could have occurred despite detailed and long-established gun-safety protocols for film sets.
