Priyanka Chopra says ‘Citadel’ has given her a sense of validation; credits Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut and Katrina Kaif for bringing the change in Indian cinema – Times of India

Priyanka Chopra recently opened up about her upcoming series, ‘Citadel’ where she will be seen doing lavishly mounted action which is usually reserved for male stars. According to her, it has given her a sense of validation.
Talking about the same, Priyanka told a news portal that the simple reason why female stars were never given the mounting was because of patriarchy. The actress also added that it is a thick glass ceiling and many actresses in Bollywood from her generation have helped knock that ceiling down. She added that actresses like Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut and Katrina Kaif have done incredible action and look amazing while doing it. According to her, it took a generation of actors before them to fight for it and that happens with every generation.

Elaborating further, Priyanka added that watching her play a lead on a show and doing stunts or action mounted where people would have seen a hero do, makes it easier for the next generation of actresses because now they aren’t scared. According to her, when you have a new idea and you are pushing against a system, someone has to do it for the first time. One person does it, then four people do it. Suddenly it is a community.

‘Citadel’ also stars Richard Madden in the lead role. It will stream on an OTT platform from April 28 onwards. Apart from this, Priyanka also has Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming directorial, ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ in her kitty where she will be sharing the screen space with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.
