Priyanka Chopra recalls giving up on pay parity in Bollywood; says she asked for ‘little bit more, woh bhi nahi milta tha’ – Times of India

Priyanka Chopra will soon make her international web series debut with Richard Madden in the Russo Brothers’ series ‘Citadel’. During the recent premiere, the actress opened up about pay parity. After spending over 22 years in the film industry, Chopra said that this was the first project in which she received the same paycheque as her male co-star.
The star also revealed that she was previously paid 90% less than her male co-leads in the film. Reflecting on the issue of pay parity between actors and actresses in the industry, she revealed that she gave up on the fight in Bollywood. In an interview, the actress said that she never asked for parity, but only asked for a little bit more. Sadly, she said, ‘woh bhi nahi milta tha (even that I wouldn’t get)’. This prompted her to just give up the fight.

Previously, the actress said in an interview with ANI, that she had men in her life who were ‘very insecure’ about her success. “I think that men have enjoyed the freedom and the pride of being the breadwinners or the leaders of the family…it’s threatening to their territory when a woman does that,” she said.

The actress is also gearing up for her Bollywood return with the film ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ which will see her share the screen space with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. The film is scheduled to go on floors next year.
