Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Officially Left Their U.K. Home

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex no longer have a home in the United Kingdom.

“We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage. The Duke and Duchess have repaid the expenditure incurred by the Sovereign Grant in relation to the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, thus leaving the Crown with a greatly enhanced asset,” Keeper of the Privy Purse Sir Michael Stevens said during a recent financial briefing, according to The Independent.

Their departure was also confirmed separately by Vogue.

In March, news broke that the couple had been asked to leave Frogmore Cottage. But it was unclear when, or if, the move would take place—especially after Prince Harry stayed at their Windsor home during his father’s coronation. However, now the couple’s exit is certain. It’s also the latest evidence of an ever-widening rift between the Sussexes and the royal family which, somehow, has continued to deepen.

The couple was gifted Frogmore Cottage in 2019 by Queen Elizabeth, and paid for an extensive renovation independently. However, their time in the five-bedroom house was short-lived: by the end of that year, they had decamped to Canada. In January 2020, they quit their roles as senior royals. By March 2020, they had resettled in California permanently.

Their Los Angeles life may not be going as smoothly as previously hoped. Recently, Spotify and the Sussexes decided to end their (reportedly highly lucrative) podcast deal, after one season of the Duchess’s show “Archetypes.” Meanwhile, a number of projects with Netflix have been shelved, including an animated series called Pearl.

Where the Sussexes go from here remains to be seen. However, there’s one possibility we can rule out: back to Windsor, England.
