Prime Minister Narendra Modi to arrive in Mumbai today to pay his homage to Lata Mangeshkar – Times of India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reportedly be arriving in Mumbai at 4:15 pm in Mumbai to pay his tributes to the Nightingale of India. A two-day national mourning has been announced by the Government on India and flags on all Government buildings across India will fly at half mast. Lata Mangeshkar will be accorded a State Funeral.
The legendary singer was admitted to the hospital after being tested positive for the novel Coronavirus earlier in January. She was on the ventilator for weeks but then on January 28, she was taken off the ventilator as she showed signs of improvement. Unfortunately, again her health condition has deteriorated, and she has been put back on the ventilator under the close observation of the doctors.
Dr Pratit Samdani, who was treating her at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, told ANI, “It is with profound grief that we announce the sad demise of #LataMangeshkar at 8:12am. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post COVID19.”
Lata Mangeshkar is lovingly referred to as the ‘Nightingale of India’. She started her glorious career in singing at the age of 13 and recorded her first song in 1942. In her career spanning seven decades, she has to her credit over 30,000 songs in different languages. She has songs like ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’, ‘Raam Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Ek Radha Ek Meera’ and ‘Didi Tera Devar Deewana’ and many more to her credit.
She was the oldest of the siblings, Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
