Premium new small car arrives in Oz
Europe’s latest answer to the Volkswagen Golf has landed Down Under and brings some head turning looks to the small car market.
France’s answer to the Volkswagen Golf has landed.
The new Citroen C4 is now on sale in Australia priced from $37,990 (before on-road costs) or about $43,000 drive-away. This is expensive and about equal to a top-shelf VW Golf.
Citroen Australia has taken the choice out of the buying process by offering the C4 in one fully loaded grade only dubbed, Shine.
The only optional extras are metallic paint and a sunroof.
Citroen Australia boss, Kate Gillis, believes the single well-equipped variant and its very short list of optional extras will appeal to buyers.
“New C4 Shine is the perfect addition to our model line-up with its standout style, strong equipment list,” says Ms Gillis.
“Its design is original and stunning, and coupled with its impressive versatility and unrivalled comfort, the C4 will really appeal to the discerning Australian small car buyer.”
The C4 features handsome styling with a swoopy profile giving it a sporty appearance. This is complemented by edgy 18-inch alloy wheels, chunky side guards and sleek LED headlights.
Power comes from a pint-sized three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 114kW and 240Nm. This is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
Citroen claims the C4 drinks 6.1L/100km.
Inside there is a digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch central touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Leather appointed front seats are heated and the driver’s is electronically adjustable.
Back seat passengers are covered with aircon vents and USB charging points.
Citroen claims to have improved the C4’s suspensions and sound insulation to make for a quieter and smoother ride.
The C4 is loaded with safety features. It’ll break automatically if it detects a potential collision with cars, pedestrians and cyclists.
There is lane keep assist that will stop you wandering out of your lane by gently tugging the steering wheel and directing you back in your lane. This is joined by radar cruise control and driver attention warning.
A 360-degree camera makes parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces easier.
