Premier League: Everton directors told to stay away due to ‘credible threat to their safety’

Following last week’s humiliating 4-1 home defeat to Brighton, fans are reportedly preparing a protest at Goodison Park, home ground of Everton.

On the recommendation of security advisors, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief finance and strategy officer Grant Ingles, and non-executive director Graeme Sharp will “reluctantly” step down.

The club, in a statement, told it was “a profoundly sad day” for the club. It also called this decision, ‘unprecedented’.

“Following a thorough risk assessment, and in response to tangible threats received by the club and intelligence we have gathered, the club’s Board members have been told they must not attend today’s fixture,” a statement from security and safety advisor read.

Everton lost the game 2-1, dropping from 18th to 19th in the league. Moreover, Everton’s manager Frank Lampard is said to have been under pressure after a poor performance lately. Everton fans are outraged given the club’s recent bad form.

The club has not won a league game since October, prompting supporters to organise a sit-down protest in the Park Stand following Saturday’s encounter against bottom-of-the-table Southampton.

Fans have vented their rage at the club’s upper management, notably the board of directors, owner Farhad Moshiri, and manager Frank Lampard.
