Prajesh Sen on ‘Meri Awas Suno’: Manju Warrier plays a speech therapist, who is also a social worker – EXCLUSIVE – Times of India
Speaking exclusively to ETimes, Prajesh Sen speaks about his upcoming film ‘Meri Awas Suno’, on the fresh onscreen combination of Manju Warrier and Jaysurya, and much more.
The teaser and the trailer of the film have created the right amount of buzz amongst the cinephiles, and Manju Warrier’s character has sparked everyone’s curiosity. Speaking about Manju Warrier’s character in the film, Prajesh Sen tells us, “She is stepping into the shoes of Dr. Reshmi Padath. Manju Warrier plays a speech therapist, who is also a social worker. Reshmi is someone who constantly interacts with society, and has her own opinions, and an identity.”
The recently released trailer and the dialogue by Dr. Reshmi Padath have grabbed eyeballs. She is seen giving a speech at a women’s college, wherein in she asks, “How many of you have sneaked out of your hostel to catch a movie?” Prajesh Sen acknowledges that Reshmi is a free spirit, and adds, “We always laud women like Kalpana Chawla or Serena Williams, but you rarely see that respect or consideration given to the women we interact in our daily lives. We all talk about gender equality, but do we walk the talk? These are some of the questions Reshmi raises during a radio program hosted by RJ Shankar. She goes on to ask, how many of us would be kind enough to offer a cup of coffee to a female colleague, who has rushed to the office? Or are there bosses willing to say you can take leave for today when their employees share that his/ her child is unwell? For Reshmi, humanity is beyond gender. Also in the trailer, you can see Reshmi’s speech to students at a convent college. She is invited to give motivational speeches to the students, and she asks them, whether they have sneaked out of their hostel to catch a movie, or went out at night to have some street food. Dr. Reshmi isn’t able to wrap her head around the idea, of why women are not allowed to be out at night on their own. According to her, the night is just a phase where there is no sunlight. For her, the world does not cease at night. She is a free spirit.”
One of the USP’s of ‘Meri Awas Suno’ is Jayasurya and Manju Warrier joining hands for the first time. Speaking about how he came to the fresh combination, Prajesh Sen shares, “After watching ‘Captain’ and ‘Vellam’, Manju Warrier had connected with me. During our conversation, both of us expressed our wish to work together, when the right project comes. Also, she was very keen on working with Jayasurya, since they never got a chance to. So when I got this subject and saw the space for some meaty female characters, I felt she would be a perfect fit. Also, you cannot ask her to play a character without an identity, especially considering her seniority and stature. So, yes, that’s how she roped in for the role.”
Prajesh Sen sums up by adding that as the title suggests, RJ Shankar is asking to listen to him, “We all go through ups and downs in life. Life is about falling seven times and standing up at the eighth. That’s when you taste success.”
