The House of Slay—a group founded by designers Phillip Lim, Prabal Gurung, Laura Kim, restaurateur Ezra J. Williams, and stylist Tina Leung—accepted the CFDA’s Positive Social Impact award last night for their work supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander community. Founded in 2021 in response to rising anti-Asian hate crimes, House of Slay has since mobilized AAPI voters, created a comic book, and partnered with the Brooklyn Nets on its inaugural AAPI Heritage Night. Before accepting their accolade, Gurung let Vogue in on his getting ready process, which started with a boxing session and a facial.
Gurung attended with singer-songwriter Varsha Thapa, who wore look 26 from Gurung’s fall 2022 collection, a stunning red gown with a halter neckline and spacious cutouts. For his part, Gurung wore a three-piece YSL suit that he “found on a whim,” along with bling from Tasaki Atelier, the jewelry house of which he is creative director. He describes himself and Thapa as “two kids from Nepal living our dreams.”
After preparing for the big night with a calming glass of wine, Gurung headed to Casa Cipriani, where the event was held. He naturally had to pose on the red carpet with his fellow House of Slay founders and best friends. Below, see how Gurung prepared for the big night.
