ANGE POSTECOGLOU has revealed his pre-match ritual of listening to Celtic fans singing You’ll Never Walk Alone at Parkhead.
The Greek-Australian manager spoke of his routine ahead of kick-off at Celtic Park as he saluted the atmosphere created by fans at home matches.
It’s a dream come true for Postecoglou who recalls waking in the early hours as a youngster to tune into Scottish and English football.
Speaking with cricket legend Shane Warne on a Celtic TV feature Postecoglou explained the “surreal” feeling of hearing fans singing You’ll Never Walk Alone before every home clash.
He said: “When I got appointed that’s the one thing people said to me: ‘Wait until you get to Celtic Park and you feel the atmosphere when you walk out’.
“And again, as a young kid I just followed English football, Scottish football, anything from the other side of the world, because in Australia at the time football wasn’t the most professional or the highly-publicised sport.
“I’d sit up in the middle of the night and watch games from over here and I always loved the atmosphere that was created.
“I’d get up early to watch the pre-match and you hear them singing the songs.
“I do it now here at Celtic; just before the lads go out, they’re in the sheds and the dressing rooms.
“I’ll walk out of the dressing rooms and just stand in the tunnel and listen to the crowd sing You’ll Never Walk Alone before we walk out.
“That’s the kind of stuff I dreamt about as a kid, to be involved in something like that.
“It’s still a bit surreal for me. When I’m sitting there in the tunnel, I’m listening to it and thinking ‘I’m part of this now’.”
