‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ box office collection day 7: Mani Ratnam’s film ends the first week on a high note | Tamil Movie News – Times of India

After the mega-blockbuster success of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, the sequel to Mani Ratnam’s directorial debut, “Ponniyin Selvan 2,” was released in theatres last week on April 28. The historical drama satisfied the fans well enough to open big at the box office. The latest report regarding the ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ box office collection claims that the historical drama has grossed almost Rs 265 crores worldwide at the end of day 7. But the collection of the film on day 7 (May 4, Thursday) has dropped immensely, and the film has reportedly grossed less than Rs 9 crore.
In Tamil Nadu, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is inching towards the 100 crore mark, while the domestic collection of the film stays at Rs 133 crore. The overseas collection has powered the film, as it is already mounting into the top position in the USA, UK, Australia, and Gulf regions. The second-week collections of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ are going to be an important factor since they will decide whether the sequel will surpass the prequel’s collection (Rs 500 crores worldwide) or not.
Based on the historical story of the Cholas, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ features Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shobita, Sarathkumar, and Vikram Prabhu, among others. Chiyaan Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have been the show stealers of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’, while Mani Ratnam shaped every main character perfectly to add power to the film. AR Rahman’s excellent music and Ravi Varman‘s classy visuals are a big bonus to the film.
