‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ box office collection day 3: Mani Ratnam’s directorial mint more than Rs. 230 crores so far – Times of India

Director Mani Ratnam has adapted Kalki’s historical novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ into a movie. Starring Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, and Parthiban, this movie was released in theaters last Friday(September 30) and is receiving a good response at the ticket windows. Not just in India but the reception for ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has been massive right from the beginning in the USA, which made the film gross over Rs 33 crores ($4 M) to become the no 1 Tamil movie for the opening weekend. Not only in the USA, but the film has also achieved the feat in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ has surpassed Rs 200 crore worldwide on its third day of theatrical run and the film has reportedly grossed Rs 230+ crores in 3 days. Meanwhile, the film has breached the Rs 50 crore mark in Tamil Nadu and made a collection of Rs 64+ crores in 3 days in the home state. Even though the response for ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ in Telugu and Northern states is average, the film has managed to transform into a successful one with immense response from overseas.

After announcing the opening day collection officially, the makers of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ have confirmed reaching Rs 200 crore mark too, and we can expect another official announcement soon once the film breaches the 300 crore mark.
