Pomellato Hosted a Special Exhibition in Tokyo Celebrating Beauty and Creativity
The exhibition “From Milan to Tokyo: A Journey of Craftsmanship, Creativity, and Design” held in Tokyo’s Harajuku district celebrated Italian style, a global standard of luxury. The themes explored in the show—presented by Pomellato, the Italy-based fine jewelry house—are Supreme Mastery, Creative Design, and Milanese Elegance.
“[We are] proud to be the first company to present a collection of the most exclusive creations of Pomellato,” says CEO Sabina Belli. “Pomellato is a brand founded in Milan in 1967 with the concept of precious yet everyday jewelry. The jewelry that reflects the Milanese style—which values individuality and can be enjoyed in a variety of situations—resonates with contemporary fashion. These elements were the starting point for this exhibition.”
The exhibition opened with Creative Design, which presents iconic jewelry inspired by Milanese architecture and art, alongside three pieces of furniture. A modern interpretation of traditional goldsmithing techniques dubbed “Iconica” was displayed alongside the Superleggera chair by Gio Ponti of Cassina. The “Nude” jewelry, which stands out for its beauty of color and brilliance, was shown in combination with the baroque Magis Proust armchair by Alessandro Mendini, attracting those interested in art as well as jewelry. Finally, the “Catenet” jewelry was beautifully displayed along with the Arrangements lights designed by Michael Anastassiades for Flos.
“The history of Pomellato bears some similarities to the history of contemporary design. This section represents the fact that Pomellato creates jewelry that is not only modern, but also meaningful to history,” says Belli.
The second area—under the concept of Supreme Mastery—celebrated the craftsmanship of Pomellato’s artisans. The first thing you hear upon entering the space is a sound installation of smiths hammering gold by hand. The echoes of the tools, which maintain a steady rhythm, create a sacred atmosphere, almost like a meditative space.
