PoK, Pak-based websites behind threat to Kashmiri Pandits
Four local Kashmiri militants designated under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, are based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or Turkey and the ban will enable restrictions on their travel and freezing of their assets, as per international practices and conventions, they said.
Portals and websites purportedly operating from PoK and Pakistan, the ‘Kashmir Media Service’, and TRF mouthpiece, ‘Kashmir Fight’, are said to be behind the recent threats of targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandit government employees. TRF “commander” Sheikh Sajjad Gul along with Turkey-based Mukhtar Baba were responsible for threats to journalists in Kashmir in November last year, according to officials probing the conspiracy.
Four media persons reportedly resigned after the threats. The ‘Kashmir fight’ blog has been blacklisted but continues to operate through online messenger Telegram, said officials. A senior government official said: “With major terror infrastructure in the valley dismantled, the individuals are operating from foreign soil and trying to radicalise and recruit online.”
Arbaz Ahmad Mira, formerly a resident of Kulgam, is working for LeT from across the border, according to officials. Mir was identified as the main conspirator behind the targeted killing of teacher Rajni Bala in Kulgam. Mohammed Amin Khubaiab, a native of Doda in Jammu, is currently in Pakistan and acting as launching commander of LeT. Hizb-Ul militant, Asif Maqbool Dar, who hails from Baramulla, is operating from Dhahran in Saudi Arabia, said a Union home ministry order.
The fourth person to be designated, Aijaz Ahmad Ahanger, was born in Nawakadal in Srinagar in 1974 and is based in Afghanistan, acting as a chief recruiter of Islamic State J&K, as per the home ministry. It said Ahanger has close contacts with Al-Qaida.
