PM Modi says ‘will celebrate Yoga Day at UN headquarters today evening’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said informed that he will join the UN leadership and international community at the United Nations Headquarters to celebrate the International Day of Yoga Day on today. The event will the start at 5pm IST.
It is the ninth year since the UN recognised June 21 as the International Day of Yoga through a resolution in 2014.
International Yoga Day is a momentous occasion, with over 180 countries uniting to celebrate this ancient Indian practice. Since the United Nations declared it as an official day of observance in 2014, the event has gained remarkable global traction, becoming a symbol of unity and shared purpose.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight at the widespread participation, highlighting the transformative power of yoga. He emphasised that yoga not only strengthens our physical bodies but also expands our inner vision, fostering a deep connection with the consciousness that unites all living beings. This connection forms the basis for love and compassion towards others.
“Yoga strengthens such feelings, expands the inner vision, and connects us with that consciousness which makes us feel the unity of the living being giving a basis of love for the living being,” the prime minister said.
Modi further stressed the significance of the day in promoting harmony and unity, urging everyone to eliminate contradictions, blockages, and resistances through the practice of yoga. By doing so, he proposed that India can exemplify the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Excellent India), serving as a global example of harmony and progress.
“We have to eliminate our contradictions, blockages and resistances through Yoga. We have to present the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ as an example to the world,” Modi said.
Meanwhile, various arrangements have also been made across India to raise awareness about the ancient Indian practice and its numerous benefits.
