PM Modi declares Modhera India’s 1st 24×7 solar-powered village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday declared Modhera in Mehsana district of north Gujarat the first village in the country to be 24×7 solar-powered. Starting his three-day visit to the state weeks before the assembly polls are announced, he asserted that Gujarat had major law and order issues as well as serious water and power shortage during the non-BJP rule but has since put these woes behind.

“You never looked at my caste, you never looked at my political life. You have given your blessings to me with eyes closed. You gave me complete love and affection. You have seen my work and ratified it again and again. Not only me, you continue to bless all my colleagues too,” Modi said at a public meeting in Modhera.

Modhera’s claim to fame till now has been the Sun temple there. The village becoming solar-powered round the clock will give an impetus to job creation as sectors like dairy and heritage tourism would get a boost from this, Modi said.

Reaching out to the locals, Modi said in his speech in Gujrati that years back Mehsana used to suffer from poor water and power supply. The law and order situation was so bad then that people had to make phone calls to Ahmedabad to enquire about the situation before going there, he said, as opposed to now when youngsters haven’t even heard the word ‘curfew’.

Modi reminded the people of the development that has taken place in the region and pointed out how the region has been transformed into an auto-manufacturing hub. He said Gujarat will also start manufacturing aeroplanes in future.

He also elaborated on the many developmental initiatives of the successive BJP governments and the difference brought about and reiterated the political tagline of the ruling BJP in Gujarat of the benefit of the “double engine” government. Faster development would take place with Narendra (Modi) and Bhupendra (Patel) working together, he said. In a subtle way, he has put to rest speculations over the leadership of the state, the elections and the future course of action there.
