PIL demands ban of Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ for disrupting peace in Bengal – Times of India

Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ continues to court controversy, the latest one being a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) calling a complete ban of the movie. This PIL had been filed at the Calcutta High Court by BJP leader and lawyer Nazia Ilahi Khan. According to her plea, the movie defames the Indian Army and hence she has sought a ban of the film claiming it is ‘likely to cause breach of peace’. She has also reportedly stated that showcasing the film in theatres may compormise the law and order situation in the state and that security should be posted outside theatres.

Previously, members of the Sanatan Rakshak Sena in Varanasi had staged a protest against the movie at a mall. Sanatan Rakshak Sena state president Chandra Prakash Singh said that after watching Aamir Khan’s last movie ‘PK’, it was clear that the actor mocks Hindu God and Goddess and makes unrestrained comments on them. The organisation appealed to the people to not watch the movie and even submitted a memorandum to the Station House Officer of Bhelupur.

Directed by Advait Chandan, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is a remake of Hollywood movie ‘Forrest Gump’. Reacting to the boycott trend, Aamir had previously said, “I feel sad. Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their heart, they believe that I am someone who doesn’t like India. In their hearts they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. That’s not the case. Please don’t boycott my film. Please watch my film.” At the end of its second weekend, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ has earned Rs 55 crore at the box office.
