PIL challenging clean chit to Aryan Khan in alleged drugs case withdrawn – Times of India ►

A public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the “acquittal” or “clean chit” given to Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in 2021 drugs-on-cruise has been withdrawn. The PIL, which was filed before the Bombay High Court, was withdrawn after Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala asked the petitioner to explain his locus in the matter and even warned of heavy costs. ACJ SV Gangapurwala called this a publicity interest litigation.

In October 2021, Aryan Khan was detained in a drugs bust case, following which he spent more than three weeks in jail. In March this year Aryan was given a clean chit by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and their chargesheet stated that the star kid was not in possession of Narcotics. This PIL was filed by a law student, who contested that the power to grant clean chit to an accused and not the investigation agency. “The agency investigated, they did not have enough evidence against an accused. They gave a clean chit. How is your client harmed by that? What is his locus and grievance?”, the judge asked. The Court further stated, “As a law student, he should try and file PILs for good causes. You either satisfy us how does this PIL lie, what is your client’s locus, or we will impose costs. This seems like a publicity interest litigation!”

On the work front, Aryan has finished the script of his maiden web series project and is all set to start directing the same.
