Photos show why Australia should be favourites to win World Test Championship final against India

Why these photos have given Australia’s World Test Championship final chances against India a huge boost just ahead of clash at The Oval

  • Green deck revealed ahead of World Test Championship final
  • Australia and India will lock horns at The Oval in London
  • Pitch should suit Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc & Scott Boland
  • Play begins at 7.30pm on Wednesday night, is a six-day Test

Australia’s pace attack are licking their lips with anticipation after a green deck was unveiled ahead of the World Test Championship final against India.

The Oval in London is the neutral venue – and the wicket is nothing like the dust bowls curators produced on the subcontinent when the two sides last met in February.

With England a notoriously difficult place to bat early in the summer, Pat Cummings’ side are likely to bowl first if they win the toss.

A recent Surrey vs Kent county match at the same venue was finished in seven sessions, in what was a bowler’s paradise.

‘Anytime there’s a bit of grass on the wicket and Dukes ball with some overheads [clouds] is pretty fun for the quick bowlers, so we are looking forward to a good week,’ Cummins told News Corp.

Australia are likely to play three quicks – Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland – and the squad are ‘feeling confident and ‘love playing in England.’

Cummins also thinks Boland could be a match-winner in the United Kingdom.

‘These conditions just seem to suit Scotty, you’d think,’ he said.

‘He hasn’t played a lot over here, but a seam bowler who will be rewarded for just bowling in the good areas over and over again. That’s what he brings to the team. He’s been fantastic.

‘Even in India, he played the first Test match there on a pretty docile wicket and still did a fantastic job. He’s a seasoned pro. If there’s any assistance in the wicket as well, he just goes to that next level.’

In contrast, India may have to leave out one of their quality spinners, with either Ravi Ashwin or Ravi Jadeja tipped to carry the drinks as 12th man.

Play begins at 7.30pm on Wednesday (AEST).
