The Philadelphia Phillies’ J.T. Realmuto has become the first catcher in MLB postseason history to hit an inside-the-park home run.
Realmuto sent the already-ravenous Phillies fans inside Citizens Bank Park into raptures in the bottom of the third, during their crunch NLDS playoff series against the Atlanta Braves.
The 31-year-old sent the ball into center field, where Michael Harris failed in an attempt to catch the ball before it cannoned off the wall and away from Harris, allowing Realmuto to round the bases.

The inside-the-park homer has occurred just three times in the postseason within the last 93 years. Realmuto’s hit is now the 18th of its kind in the history of the Major Leagues.
Earlier this year, Toronto’s Raimel Tapia hit a grand slam inside-the-park home run at Fenway Park after the center fielder lost sight of the ball.
Realmuto’s special feat gave the Phillies a commanding 4-1 lead, edging them ever closer to a brilliant upset win.

Atlanta trail 1-2 in the series and must win in Game 4 if they are to send the series to a final match in the best-of-five series.
Conversely, Philadelphia can close the series out if their lead is maintained, which would see them advance to the National League Championship Series.
The winner of the Phillies-Braves series will face off against the victors of the other divisional series between Los Angeles and San Diego. Currently, the Padres hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.
