Philadelphia police will GREASE light poles in the city’s streets in a bid to stop fans from climbing them as part of wild celebrations if the Eagles win the NFC Championship

The city of Philadelphia is preparing for the aftermath of a potential Eagles victory in Sunday’s NFC Championship and that includes the greasing of light poles in the hope of detering climbers. 

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement that Philadelphians are encouraged to celebrate ‘safely and responsibly.’

The statement from the mayor’s office said the Philadelphia Police Department ‘will institute the practice of greasing poles as a deterrent for climbing poles and light fixtures.’

Kenney added: ‘As the Mayor of this great city it is always a joy to see all Philadelphians united behind our beloved sports teams.

‘We encourage fans to cheer on safely and responsibly and wish the Eagles good luck in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.’

Philadelphia fans have become well known for climbing street poles as many were seen doing so while celebrating the Eagles recent run to the Super Bowl title in 2018, as well as during the Philadelphia Phillies recent run to the World Series, before being defeated by the Houston Astros.

It was not revealed which street posts specifically would be oiled or when the oil would be applied, however it was revealed that there would also be multiple closed streets and barricades at unnamed locations.

The Mayor’s office also revealed there would be temporary no parking signs along the South Broad Street corridor and around City Hall.

The Eagles face the Niners at Lincoln Financial Field at 3pm Sunday.
