PGA Tour winner Sebastian Munoz ‘becomes the latest to jump ship to LIV Golf’

LIV Golf has poached yet another PGA Tour winner after the Saudi-funded series signed Colombia’s Sebastian Munoz, according to a report. 

Greg Norman’s breakaway has already lured away a solid group of rebels with its flashy prize purses and lucrative signing-on fees and has reportedly captured yet another. 

Munoz is the latest to sign with the rebel series, adding to the Latin American talent on LIV’s roster, according to The Telegraph.

While Munoz may not be the blockbuster name Norman has hinted would be jumping ship to join the likes of Open Champion Cameron Smith, the Bogota native does have a PGA tour victory to his name at the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship. 

It had previously been reported by The Telegraph that Mito Pereira would be joining his compatriot Chile’s Joaquin Niemann. 

With Mexico’s Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz also already onboard, Munoz would be joining LIV’s Latin American contingency.

And just in time for the 2023 season opener at Mayakoba in Mexico on February 24 where LIV will want to boast its capture of Latin America’s best. 

Munoz’s departure is not only a blow for the PGA Tour but also the Presidents Cup and 2024 Internationals captain Mike Weir. 

The 30-year-old was one of the standouts of last year’s event, despite his side suffering defeat to Team USA, going undefeated in three games and bringing down former World No. 1 and reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.

The Colombian has dropped to World No. 90, however, after struggling with a back issue. 

Munoz’s defection may not come as a massive surprise to some after he previously declared that he based his game on chief LIV rebel Phil Mickelson. 

‘When I won on the PGA Tour, I asked myself ‘what would Phil do in this circumstance, how would he take on this shot?’ Munoz said. ‘I always ask myself that. Phil is my inspiration.’
