Speaking after the game, Crouch said: ‘The problem is their second string. They can’t compete. When they go to Burnley on the weekend they won’t be able to knock on any doors.

‘They had to bring on the likes of Son to bring any type of urgency to the team and they still lost the game.’

Hoddle agreed with his fellow pundit and criticised Davinson Sanchez for his defensive work.

He said: ‘If this was a 16-year-old defender, you do it twice maybe, but he did exactly the same thing. He’s allowed the player to come inside, we spoke about it at half-time.’

Crouch added: ‘I said “come inside him”, because he did it in the first-half, he goes to sleep. He’s trying to shepherd him down the line, he turned the wrong way again, it’s awful defending.’

Hoddle, 64, went on to blame Sanchez for Mura’s second goal – claiming the defender allowed the attacker to cut inside of him again.

He said: ‘If it’s a 15-year-old you say “you can’t do that again”, but he’s done it again and forgotten about what happened in the first-half.

‘I just cannot understand for the life of me why he’s allowed him to come inside, he’s not read the situation in a vital time in the game.’

Hoddle went on to label Tottenham’s overall performance as ‘disgraceful’ and express his disappointment for the Spurs fans who travelled to the game.

He told BT Sport: ‘200+ fans have gone out to support them. It’s amazing they have gone out their to support their team but to get that performance is disgraceful really.’

As a result of Thursday night’s scoreline, Antiono Conte’s side have dropped down to third in the group.

Tottenham can still qualify for the next round of the Europa League – however, they have made life difficult for themselves.

The North London club must get a result against Rennes in the final match day of Group G on 9 December.
