Pep Guardiola leaves Liverpool fans raging over Man City equaliser celebrations

Pep Guardiola leaves Liverpool fans raging after he celebrates Man City equaliser in the face of Reds substitute Kostas Tsimikas… as Rio Ferdinand says he doesn’t know how the full-back ‘didn’t push’ the Spaniard away

Liverpool fans were less than pleased after Pep Guardiola’s enthusiastic celebrations after Julian Alvarez’s equaliser against the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were ahead for just ten minutes after Mohamed Salah’s opener, before Alvarez poked home to level the score in a game that City won 4-1.

Guardiola seemed to get caught up in the excitement and even tried to get a bunch of Liverpool substitutes involved.

After punching his fists in the air, he turned his attention to Liverpool substitute Kostas Tsimikas as the Greek full-back walked back to the dug-out.

Guardiola appeared to hold his hand out for the clearly unimpressed Tsimikas and said something to the Liverpool player before tapping him on the chest.

Tsimikas to his credit took Guardiola’s celebrations in his stride before the Spaniard then pointed and sarcastically shook the hand of on-loan midfield Arthur Melo before turning his attention to the home fans.

Rio Ferdinand during BT Sport’s half-time coverage said: ‘I don’t know how Tsimikas hasn’t pushed him out of the way there.’

Asked about his celebrations after the game, Guardiola said: ‘I was happy and said how nice was our goal. Ask him if I lacked respect.’

Guardiola then asked a reporter whether he thought it showed a lack of respect.

The Spaniard then apologised after the reporter said he felt the moment did lack respect.

Liverpool fans though were less than pleased on social media.

One fan account wrote: ‘That celebration from Guardiola in front of and to Tsimikas and Arthur, how haven’t either of them decked him there.’

Another Liverpool fan suggested Tsimikas ‘should’ve taken the red and decked Guardiola’.

While another supporter said people ‘wouldn’t hear the end of it’ if Jurgen Klopp had done the same reaction.

City ended up winning the game 4-1 after second-half goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish.
