Paul Scholes says Paul Pogba is the ONLY Man United player who would get into Liverpool’s team

Paul Scholes has claimed Paul Pogba is the only Manchester United player that would get into Liverpool’s team after the Frenchman’s recent return to form. 

Pogba missed a large chunk of the current season due to a long-term hamstring problem picked up in November – but the Red Devils have remained unbeaten in the Premier League since he made his first-team return at the start of February. 

The 28-year-old has one goal and one assist in his last four top-flight matches and impressed as Ralf Rangnick’s United won at Leeds on Sunday, with Scholes hailing Pogba’s unpredictability despite previous concerns about his work rate.

‘Pogba in his best form would (get into Liverpool’s team),’ he told Premier League Productions. ‘He is indicative of what the club are doing. Every player is inconsistent. People running the club are inconsistent in what they are doing.

‘I have been a big critic of Paul, but if you are an opposing player going to Old Trafford and you are playing against Fred and McTominay – all day long. 

‘Now, you don’t know what you are going to get with Paul. But when he is on his game, he is brilliant.

‘But when he isn’t, then against your Liverpool and Man Citys, you might struggle in them areas. Where do Man United go next year to replace him?’ 

Pogba’s contract expires at the end of the season, which would bring his second Old Trafford to an end just six years after he made a then-world record move from Juventus for £89million.

The Frenchman has become a major figure under interim boss Rangnick in recent weeks, with the German manager holding talks with Pogba and other United leaders – such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes – about how to rescue the club’s season.

United’s 4-2 win at Leeds on Sunday extended their lead over fifth-placed West Ham to four points, but Rangnick’s side would fall out of the top-four should Arsenal win all of their games in hand. 

Pogba and United know that their last chance of silverware lies with the Champions League, as the Red Devils prepare to face Atletico Madrid in Wednesday night’s last-16 first-leg. 

United last tasted a Premier League defeat on January 3 but their six-game unbeaten run has included draws with Aston Villa, Burnley and Southampton.
