The Duchess of Cornwall (L) speaks with television presenter Paul O'Grady (R) during a visit to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home where she met staff and volunteers in London on December 12, 2012. Earlier in the year The Duchess re homed Bluebell, a nine-week-old Jack Russell Terrier, after she was found as a stary wandering in a London park. Her Royal Highness adopted Beth, a Jack Russell Terrier puppy, from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in August 2011. In September of this year, The Duchess adopted a second Jack Russell Terrier puppy from Battersea, called Bluebell. Established in 1860, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home aims never to turn away a dog or cat in need of its help. The charity reunites lost dogs and cats with their owners or cares for them until new homes can be found for them, giving them shelter and the highest standards of kennelling and veterinary care. In 2011 the Home cared for almost 6,000 dogs and 3,000 cats across its three centres in South West London, Old Windsor, Berkshire and Brands Hatch, Kent. In its 152 year history Battersea has rescued, reunited and rehomed over 3.1 million dogs and cats. Today the charity rehomes dogs and cats across the UK and overseas. It takes an average of 45 days to find a new home for a dog and 28 days for a cat, and there is no time limit on how long an animal can stay at the Home. AFP PHOTO / ADRIAN DENNIS / WPA POOL
