Patrick Stewart seemingly confirms ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ cameo; admits he was ‘astonished’ that fans recognised him – Times of India
The actor, who has been denying rumours of his return as the famous ‘X-Men’ character, finally let the cat out of the bag in his latest interview with JakesTakes. Patrick shared that his phone was turned off when the trailer premiered, meaning he missed most of the initial reactions to the clip.
“Well, I had my phone turned off as it happened, so I didn’t hear anything. It wasn’t until the next morning when I woke up and looked at my phone and found that I had been bombarded with responses and that my PR people had sent me reactions that they had detailed and passed onto me,” he said.
The veteran star also acknowledged that he was in fact the voice in the trailer, despite denying it last month.
“Actually didn’t recognize my own voice, it sounded different. Whether I had a cold or something at the time, I don’t know,” he said.
“I was astonished, and all they saw was the back of my shoulder, and I think my earlobe, nothing else. There would have been so many connections made. But, uh, it pleased me,” he said.
Fans began speculating that the 81-year-old actor would make a cameo in the movie after hearing his voice in the trailer that dropped during the Super Bowl in February.
MCU fans seemed to collectively agree that the alleged leaks from the film were “real” after the trailer featured a brief audio cameo of Stewart reviving his role, but this time as a member of the Illuminati to punish Strange for his crimes against the multiverse.
It was rumoured that the X-Men would make a comeback in the upcoming film that is also expected to have Hugh Jackman return as the Wolverine.
Ryan Reynolds is also expected to make a cameo in the film as Deadpool. Even though he denied the rumours, fans are not convinced.
