Kansas City Chiefs fans will love the promise that quarterback Patrick Mahomes made ahead of this season.
The Kansas City Chiefs are once again back in the Super Bowl. Specifically, they are in the big game for the third time in five years since quarterback Patrick Mahomes took over as the starter.
Ahead of this season, there was talk about the Chiefs taking a step back, considering how much talent their AFC West rivals in the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos added in the offseason last season. Not to mention that the team traded away star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins after contract negotiations fell through.
In a recent ESPN article by Adam Teicher, Mahomes spoke about the Hill trade and how he initially wasn’t a fan of it. But then, he made a promise that Chiefs fans will certainly love.

“I wanted to keep him, for sure,” Mahomes said. “They had a plan for it, though. They told me the plan and we were going to get these draft picks. We were going to go out there and bring in some free agent receivers, and I think they executed on that.
“We know that to keep having success in this league we have to keep evolving, keep getting better. I always want to be successful this year, but at the same time, I’m here for the long haul. If we’re going to have a long time here, I want to have a chance to win Super Bowls every single year.”
“Here for the long haul” and “have a chance to win Super Bowls every single year.” Yeah, Chiefs fans have to be hyped after reading that.
The Chiefs may have lost Hill, but they were able to get five draft picks in return, one of which was used on cornerback Trent McDuffie. Not to mention that the Chiefs had already added JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes Scantling ahead of the trade. If Mahomes continued to play at the same level he had throughout his career, they’d have a chance. Sure enough, here are the Chiefs, in the Super Bowl once again.
In his first year without Hill, Mahomes led the league with 5,250 yards, 41 passing touchdowns, a 6.3 touchdown percentage, and a 308.8 passing yards per game average. With these numbers, he is an NFL MVP favorite.
Oh, and the Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC and went a perfect 6-0 against their AFC West rivals, despite all of their additions.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are just one win over the Philadelphia Eagles away from winning the franchise’s third Super Bowl title.
