Passengers endure ‘horrifying experience’ on IndiGo flight with no AC; Onboard Punjab MLA highlights suffering

IndiGo has extended its apologies to passengers who endured an extremely uncomfortable hour-long flight in peak summer due to a technical problem that turned off the aircraft’s air-conditioning. Some passengers resorted to using the safety cards as makeshift fans, while a perspiring flight attendant was seen frequently distributing wet wipes to passengers.

“We deeply apologise for the inconvenience our customers experienced during your recent travel with us. We take our customers’ comfort and satisfaction seriously and regret the inconvenience on IndiGo flight 6E7261 from Chandigarh to Jaipur,” stated the airline in a released statement.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft’s air-conditioning system was thoroughly inspected upon landing in Jaipur. “Aircraft was released for subsequent flights after thorough inspections and corrections,” added IndiGo in their statement.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Punjab Congress chief and MLA, was among the passengers on the same flight. He shared his distressing experience on Twitter, highlighting how they were made to wait under the scorching sun before boarding, only to find out that the ACs were not functioning after takeoff.

“We were made to wait for about 10-15 minutes in the queue in the scorching sun and when we entered the plane, to our shock, the ACs weren’t working and the flight took off without the ACs on,” Mr. Warring tweeted along with a video taken inside the aircraft.

Mr. Warring has called upon the aviation regulator DGCI and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to take appropriate action against IndiGo for the incident.

“Right from the take-off to landing, the ACs were off and all the passengers were made to ‘suffer’ throughout the journey. No one addressed the serious concern during the flight. In fact, the air hostess ‘generously’ distributed tissue papers to the passengers to wipe off sweat,” the MLA tweeted.
