Partow Spring 2022 Ready-to-Wear Collection
Fans of Netflix’s Halston series will instantly recognize the model in Nellie Partow’s spring lookbook: Rebecca Dayan, who plays Elsa Peretti in the show. Dayan made such a convincing Elsa—down to her voice and effortless elegance—that stories about the model, muse, and jewelry designer were trending on Vogue.com for weeks after Halston’s premiere.
Partow became acquainted with Dayan after the actress wore a few of her pieces. But as she was designing her spring 2022 collection, it struck her that Dayan also happened to embody her vision of the modern, unfussy, and elegant Partow woman—much like Karen Elson, Tasha Tilberg, and Alek Wek, a few of her past lookbook stars.
Casting Dayan also aligned with a bit of an aesthetic shift for Partow. Spring is her brightest collection yet, from the gorgeous cerulean dresses and blouses to graphic, skin-baring crochet knits. It struck a balance that many designers have talked about, but few have achieved: comfortable, joyful, and timeless. A compact knit dress in thick navy and ivory bands wasn’t a print or standard knit, but rather an intricate pieced jacquard—a future heirloom. Also a lifetime investment: the chunky hand-knit cardigan used a whopping five pounds of cashmere yarn.
Color-blocking has become a key Partow signature, and spring offered a range of options, from a quiet taupe and beige suede jacket to a flared cerulean and navy gown. The collection’s surprise came in the final two looks: barrel-leg trousers cut like sweatpants, drawstring and all, in that cooling shade of blue and a pale blush. It’s the closest Partow will ever get to “loungewear,” but its design was hardly casual: The pearl-effect fabric isn’t a flimsy silk or synthetic nylon, but a luxurious, durable coated linen.
