Paralympics gold medallist Pramod Bhagat reveals what he has learned from Sachin Tendulkar
Shuttler Pramod Bhagat, who created history in the recently concluded Tokyo Paralympics by winning a gold medal in men’s singles in Badminton as the sport made its debut in the Paralympics this year. Bhagat, who recently met the Indian Cricket great Sachin Tendulkar after his gold medal win, talked about what he has learned from the ‘Master Blaster’.
In an interview with the news agency PTI, Bhagat shed light on the qualities he has learned from the former Indian batsman, especially being calm under pressure on the field and being graceful despite wins or losses.
Bhagat, who is the world champion came-from-behind to beat Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell in the SL3 class finals in the straight game after being behind by eight points and clinched the gold medal.
“I used to play cricket during childhood. During that time we used to watch cricket on Doordarshan and I was always fascinated by Sachin Tendulkar’s calm demeanour, the way he conducted himself and it had a big influence on me,” Bhagat said.

Bhagat mentioned that Tendulkar’s sportsmanship has influenced him a lot and the same thought process has helped him make some memorable comebacks including the final of the Paralympics when the scoreline of 4-12 was in Bethell’s favour.
Bhagat, who recently met Tendulkar after returning to India said that t was a dream come true moment for him and said that the legend told him about the balance of life and sports as the 33-year old gifted him his match-kit which he wore in the final while Tendulkar gifted him an autographed t-shirt and his autobiography.
