The significance of Papmochani Ekadashi
In the North Indian Purnimant calendar, Papmochani Ekadashi happens during the Krishna Paksha of the Chaitra month. In the South Indian Amavasyant calendar, it happens during the Krishna Paksha of the Phalguna month. But both North and South India celebrate it on the same day. At the moment, it is in March or April on the English calendar.
Papmochani is made up of two words: ‘Paap’, which means sin, and ‘Mochani’, which means remover. This Ekadashi fast is observed to worship Lord Vishnu, and devotees fast for the entire day to purge themselves of past mistakes and sins.
Puja rituals for Papmochani Ekadashi
On this auspicious day, people fast for the entire day, chant Lord Vishnu mantras and bhajans, and organize Bhagwat Gita meetings and sermons. Worshiping Lord Vishnu is done to obtain the diety’s blessings for a prosperous and happy life.
