Pamela Anderson Tries the Catsuit Trend on the Red Carpet
On April 19, celebrities gathered in New York for the Mugler X H&M launch event, held to celebrate the latest designer collaboration from the high street brand. Pamela Anderson was one of many famous faces in attendance and sat front row to watch a fashion show that showcased the upcoming collection, in addition to live performances from campaign stars Shygirl, Eartheater and Amaarae.
Fittingly, Anderson opted for one of the boldest looks from the collection, wearing a sheer catsuit covered in black sequin embellishments and star motifs, which she styled with an oversized black blazer to give it a more relaxed feel. The collaboration was designed by Mugler’s creative director, Casey Cadwallader and H&M’s creative advisor, Ann-Sofie Johansson, and includes Mugler signatures such as lycra bodysuits, sharply tailored jackets and crystallized pieces.
Cadwallader said to Vogue of the bodysuits which have sheer panelling in the collection—“Well… I actually didn’t have one in there at first, but it had to be there—H&M asked. We never sold it as a bodysuit, just a top, so it’s interesting that this is how we’re selling it for the first time.”
Anderson’s look continues a streak of stylish ensembles that the star has worn following the release of her documentary and memoir. Her stylist Rebecca Ramsey previously remarked to British Vogue; “She wears clothes, they don’t wear her.”
Chloë Sevigny, Lourdes Leon, Aaron Philip and longtime Mugler muse Dominique Jackson were also there to watch the action, dressed in Mugler X H&M of course, while British Vogue’s former cover star, Precious Lee, walked in the show.
The collection will be available to buy at H&M worldwide on 11 May and will include Anderson’s sheer bodysuit and Chloë Sevigny’s directional blazer. “My idea of Mugler has always been democratic,” Cadwallader explained to Vogue. “And this was a way of making it clear that it’s always been about bringing everyone in. I am also a big fan of stratification, making something that is $10,000 and something that is $50. When you’re trying to wake up Sleeping Beauty, it’s important to shoot a gun in the air. That’s what I’ve been trying to do. Some things are niche, some are bold, and maybe sometimes too bold, but that’s the way of getting the DNA recharged. It’s always been part of a bigger long-term plan of starting there and then filling out into more real clothes for people.”
