Pakistan skipper Babar Azam sets new World Record surpassing Virat Kohli

In a historic moment on Wednesday, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, overtook India’s star batsman, Virat Kohli, to establish a new world record. The milestone was achieved during a Super 4 match against Bangladesh at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Babar’s composed innings of 17 runs off 22 balls helped him reach the 2000-run mark in ODIs as a captain, a feat he accomplished in just 31 innings, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous record of 36 innings.

AB de Villiers of South Africa holds the third position on the list, achieving this milestone in 41 innings, followed closely by Australia’s legend, Michael Clarke, who took 46 innings to achieve the feat.

In the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh clash, Haris Rauf delivered two fiery spells, while Imam-ul-Haq played a brilliant innings of 78 runs, securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory for Pakistan.

Bangladesh, after opting to bat, struggled against Pakistan’s pace attack, with Rauf (6-0-19-4) and Naseem Shah (5.4-0-34-3) causing relentless trouble. Despite a 100-run partnership and twin half-centuries by Shakib (53 off 57 balls) and former captain Mushfiqur Rahim (64 off 87 balls), Bangladesh was bowled out for a mere 193 in 38.4 overs.

The target proved no challenge for Pakistan, as they chased it down in just 39.3 overs. Fakhar Zaman’s lean form continued, and Babar Azam fell victim to a low delivery from Taskin Ahmed. However, Imam-ul-Haq’s elegant 84-ball knock, featuring five fours and four sixes, guided the innings alongside Mohammad Rizwan (63 not out off 79 balls). Together, they added 85 runs for the third wicket, ensuring a smooth chase.

Rauf’s pace and Naseem’s seam and swing terrorized the Bangladeshi batsmen throughout their innings.

With this victory secured, Pakistan will now head to Colombo to face arch-rivals India in their second Super Four game on Sunday. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will look to regroup and bounce back in their next encounter
